Willie and The Goodsouls

20/12/2014

I tend to call «Willie and The Goodsouls»a band but in reality behind this name it was a solo artist

called Ville Vesalainen. Helped by Maria Hänninen and Petra Wahlsten on vocals and that last one on violin for the debut album « Fortunate Son » (which got released on 26.09.2014). Actually, the word band fits totally as they are now composed by :

Ville Vesalainen - vocals and guitar
Petra Wahlsten - vocals and violin
Mauri Kosonen - guitar and vocals
Jukka Lehto - bass and vocals
Jussi Vuola - drums and vocals

From the promo text there are 2 things that I specially remember as I totally agree.

First is that sentence about the album « a good wind music for cool autumn! ». That album isn't sad or dark so no winter, it's also not really an album with summer songs (who still remembers The Macarena). Stays spring and it's reborn and there yes maybe but at same time when I listen to the album, I can so imagine Ville singing when many autumn
tree leaves flying around him, taken by the wind.

Second is when saying that the album jumps clear of the classic rock and the American singer-songwriting tradition. When I listen to an album for the first time, I like to close my eyes, focus on the music and let it bring me somewhere else. Here it brings me to the side of Nashville and I had in mind, an accoustic guitar exactly like in their clip for « Stuff ».

Their music makes me mind on an artist who isn't American but Canadian....Bryan Adams

I personally find that if you like that kind of music, then you definitly need to go listen to « Fortunate Son » and later you can say « I discover that band when they were still a beginning band ». In music, Finland has more to offer than only metal and «Willie and The Goodsouls» is a good example of it.
