Shiraz Lane

On the 14th of October I got the occassion to see Shiraz Lane live, before learning that they were opening for Lordi. I didn't know them but I discovered their music before that show and liked their album. I was waiting to see them and I was pretty curious too.

Opening for a band isn’t necessarily easy, most of the time the fans are just waiting for the show of their group to begin but when you play between 2 bands visually as strong as Silver Dust (second opening band) and Lordi, can be it is even harder.

During their show I also observed the people around me. I’ve seen people having fun but also some others, let’s face it, being bored but is it the band’s fault ? No, far from it because they have a real energy on stage but they are a rock band. What they propose is a good show which will be appreciated by fans of bands like Guns n ’roses. We like or not but they are good in what they propose. They show that we can do rock with talking of something else than sex and drugs.

As much as I appreciate a visually strong show, as much as I really enjoy a “simple” show but in a way or another what I really love is to see a band having fun on stage, doing what they like, not just playing their music but living it.

What I liked the most of that show is the energy of the band, the fact you see their pleasure to play together and for us. I also found that the songs or is it the vocals sound better than on the album. It was pretty close but a bit like it were the same songs but mixed in a way I prefer.

There is just something I would had do differently and it is the order of the songs in the setlist. Most energetic songs in the beginning and after the most slow. I would had put « Wake Up » after some softer songs. When people are a bit more calm, then you need to wake them up, like a double meaning on the « Wake up, open up your eyes....»

Shiraz Lane is the kind of band that I will keep on following and seeing live again with pleasure. If you like rock and have the occassion to see them, I advice you to do so.
